Glass is honest. It shows every fingerprint, every water spot, and every streak left behind by the last cleaning. Most people blame the cleaner when streaks appear, but the cause is usually simpler: too much product, the wrong cloth, or the wrong light. This note walks through a quiet, reliable routine for windows, mirrors and glass shower doors.
Why glass streaks
A streak is leftover film. It can be cleaner that was never wiped away, residue on your cloth, minerals left from water drying on the surface, or dust pushed around instead of lifted.
So the fix is the same every time: use a little product, lift it fully, and finish dry. Once that clicks, glass stops being the chore you put off and becomes a two-minute habit.
What you need
- The Every Spray, made without ammonia
- Two clean microfiber cloths, one for wiping and one for buffing
- A soft brush or dry cloth for dusty frames and sills
The Every Spray is made with four ingredients: purified water, organic spirits, organic castile soap and organic essential oils. It is formulated without ammonia, so there is no sharp smell when you clean a mirror in a small bathroom.
The routine
1. Dust first
Wipe frames, sills and the top edge of mirrors with a dry cloth. Dust mixed with spray turns into streaks.
2. Mist lightly
Spray a light, even mist. For small mirrors and picture glass, spray onto the cloth instead of the glass so nothing drips into the frame.
Less is better here. If the glass is running wet, you have used too much.
3. Wipe in an S pattern
With your first microfiber cloth, start at the top corner and wipe across, then down a little, then back across, in a continuous S shape. This lifts the film rather than pushing it around in circles.
4. Buff dry right away
Before the glass dries on its own, buff it with the second, completely dry cloth. This is the step most people skip, and it is the one that makes the difference.
5. Check from an angle
Step to the side and look at the glass at an angle, ideally in natural light. Streaks hide when you look straight on. Buff any spots you find.
Choosing the right moment
Clean windows on an overcast day or when the glass is in shade. Direct sun dries the surface before you can buff it, which leaves streaks behind. Indoors, turn on the main light so you can see what you are doing.
Caring for your cloths
Your cloth matters as much as the spray.
- Wash microfiber without fabric softener. Softener coats the fibers and leaves a film on glass.
- Skip dryer sheets for the same reason. Air dry or tumble dry on low.
- Keep glass cloths separate. A cloth that has wiped a greasy stovetop will carry that film to the mirror.
- Swap to a fresh cloth when the one you are using feels damp all the way through.
Glass shower doors
Shower glass collects soap residue and water spots, which take a little more patience.
- Spray the glass and let it sit for a minute.
- Wipe with a damp cloth or a soft, non-scratch sponge.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Squeegee or buff dry.
Heavy mineral buildup is a different job from everyday cleaning, and a castile spray may not remove it on its own. Check your shower maker's care guide for what they recommend.
A quick squeegee after each shower is the easiest way to keep spots from building up at all.
A note on screens
Phone, laptop and television screens are not glass in the cleaning sense. They often have coatings that cleaners can damage. Do not use The Every Spray on electronic screens. Use a dry microfiber cloth or a cleaner made for screens.
One spray for the whole room
The same bottle that does the mirror does the sink, the counter and the tile. That is the point of The Every Spray: one cleaner for everyday surfaces, in a glass bottle you keep, with a refill that makes three more bottles.
A quick weekly order for a bathroom
If you like a rhythm, this order keeps glass clean the longest:
- Dust the mirror frame and shelves first.
- Clean the sink and counter, so splashes land before the mirror is done.
- Clean the mirror last, using the S pattern and a dry buff.
- Squeegee or buff the shower glass.
- Hang your cloths to dry, and put them in the wash at the end of the week.
Working top to bottom and leaving glass for last means you are never cleaning the same mirror twice.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my mirror still streak? Usually too much spray, a cloth with fabric softener residue, or skipping the dry buff. Use a light mist, two clean microfiber cloths, and buff right away.
Does The Every Spray contain ammonia? No. The Every Spray is made with purified water, organic spirits, organic castile soap and organic essential oils. It is formulated without ammonia.
Can I use it on windows outside? Yes, on glass. Clean in shade so the surface does not dry before you buff. See our FAQ for more on surfaces.
